Islam Makhachev, left, beat Alexander Volkanovski by first-round knockout to retain the UFC lightweight title at UFC 294 on Saturday.
After five close adjusts in their most memorable experience, Islam Makhachev made fast work in the lightweight title rematch against Alexander Volkanovski at UFC 294. Makhachev wrecked Volkanovski with a head kick in the primary round and completed the battle not long after with strikes on the ground.
Volkanovski took the battle only 11 days prior, filling in for Charles Oliveira, who was taken out because of injury. He said after the battle that his position at lightweight "is finished" and he'll return to shielding the featherweight title.
In the co-headliner, Khamzat Chimaev (13-0) got himself a future title shot by beating previous welterweight champion Kamaru Usman. Usman, who took this battle under about fourteen days prior, was brought down right away and spent the whole first round on the ground. He fought in the second and third, yet lost by larger part choice.
